Branch Rickey Boyhood Home
Located at 770 Duck Run-Otway Road, near McDermott, a historical plaque marks the boyhood home of Baseball Hall of Fame member Branch Rickey. Rickey, a player, and sports executive is best known for breaking the color barrier in major league baseball by signing Jackie Robinson to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. Rickey is also credited with creating the minor league farm system and improving player safety with his involvement of introducing the batting helmet.
